On the heels of last month's spate of anti-war protests (read about one here), focus shifts to college campuses and military recruiters. Yesterday Jamie Weinstein's article in Front Page Magazine looked at what he called the "movement to drive our military off campus" at Cornell University:

Behind the calls of "Support Our Troops -- Bring Them Home," lies the belief that the U.S. military is not generally a force of good in the world, but rather a negative one. In their mind, American G.I.'s do not stand for freedom and protecting America, but rather are drones helping further American "imperialism." I'm not pulling this out of thin air. The authors admitted it themselves... MORE

Today, Michelle Malkin reports on the obscene behavior by protestors at UC Santa Cruz.

Well, it's good to know we're reading the same article.

What's your point?

Consider it from the students' perspective: They consider the war in Iraq to be wrong. The armed forces are being forced to draw more and more from their reserves. There are more people deployed for longer than in a very long time. Now the armed forces are coming to college campuses and trying to make up the difference by recruiting... now usually, there's no problem with recruiting because we all know that after the Vietnam War, there was never a time when one could join up and EXPECT to end up on a battlefield, no matter what, for months or even years at a time.

And your 'obscene behavior' is hardly that. I'm actually a little alarmed that the biggest complaint was that the protestors barged into the room and made a lot of noise, and police showed up in riot gear.

Furthermore, the government has been using military recruitment as leverage in funding colleges and universities. What's interesting is that the universities and colleges have anti-discrimination rules, and the military is anti-gay, and yet the government forces the military recruiters into campuses.
