Commie cool (or Che chic!)

A few days ago I saw a car with a sticker on the rear window bearing the image of Che Guevara. I really wanted to ask the driver why he decorated his vehicle with a picture of a figure associated with an ideology responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of innocents. Maybe he thought it was cool or hip -- in other words, he's a moron. Maybe he just couldn't find a Hitler sticker.

As New Hampshire's Union Leader points out today, while England's Prince Harry got himself into no end of trouble (and deservedly so) for showing up at a party dressed as a Nazi soldier, Madonna got a pass when she dressed like Che on her recent "American Life" album. And just about every reference to the "Red scares" of "the McCarthy era" ignores the fact that the United States government and Army had indeed been infiltrated at the highest levels by communist spies and sympathizers.

The editorial identifies the double standard well: "Yet even as desperate innocents are jailed or murdered at the hands of Communist thugs, the Western world's cultural elite consider it cute to dress as murderous 'revolutionaries,' adopt their terminology and icons, and even make romantic movies about them." What are we to make of our pop culture that "has forgotten — or never knew — the atrocities committed under the banner of socialist revolution and to this day tramples the graves of communism's victims by celebrating the blood-Red ideology"?

Dude,

You are so right on. It's very hip for the left wing liberals to be into Che. And, it's very excepted as well. Great post.

If you'd really like further reading on the topics I'd recommend Treason by Anne Coulter and/or Shutup and Sing by Laura Ingram.

If you'd like to read some ranting and name calling and other yapping noise, I'd recommend Al Franken's Lying, Liars... It's a great comedy book!

Thanks for this. Those who do not remember the lessons of history are condemned to repeat them.
